CCSLS continues to see the impacts of Covid-19 wreaking havoc on the seniors in our community. Now that tenant protections connected to the pandemic expired in March, CCSLS is seeing a startling increase in demand for legal assistance to prevent evictions. Antioch’s rate of evictions is 22 times higher than Oakland! (Source: KQED) Seniors have the hardest time finding new housing. The average rent is $2,000 while the average SS/SSI/SSDI income is $1,254. This is a recipe for a housing crisis, especially for seniors, our most vulnerable demographic.

CCSLS’ services are especially critical in Contra Costa County, which does not yet guarantee legal help for low-income residents facing eviction. This policy is being adopted in more and more jurisdictions because of the devastating impact of eviction and the major difference legal assistance can have in preventing homelessness.

Together with your help CCSLS will meet the increasing need for legal services. The dollars you help us raise will go towards keeping older adults housed, fight abuse, and remedy fraud.
