Woman making Christmas dinnerWhile the holidays are supposed to be “the most wonderful time of the year,” it’s not the case for many people.  Many people are far away from family, or unable to travel to due transportation challenges or disabilities.  For seniors, this can be a lonely time.  However, there are resources nearby that you can access from your home to make this holiday season more connected.

Senior Peer Counseling

Senior Peer Counseling is a free service through Contra Costa Behavioral Health.  This program is available to seniors 55 years of age or older.  Seniors are matched with a peer counselor who can meet with the senior and can meet them in their homes.  The peer counselors are also seniors who can provide emotional support for those struggling with issues such as depression, fear, loneliness, the loss of a loved one, health changes, or isolation.  The program is available in English and Spanish.

For the English program, contact Jodi McIntosh at 925-521-5636 or judith.mcintosh@cchealth.org.  For the Spanish program, contact Abraham Aviles-Scott at 925-521-5653 or Abran.Aviles-Scott@cchealth.org.
