Elder Abuse

CCSLS assists victims of abuse to enforce their rights against their abusers. Some of the ways we can help include:

  • Advising about financial elder abuse, fraud and senior scams
  • Assistance in obtaining Elder Abuse Restraining Orders
  • Advising and assisting clients victimized by identity theft or fraud

Advance Health Care Directives

An Advance Health Care Directive (AHCD) is a document that expresses health care directives and provides for the appointment of an agent to make health care decisions if you are unable to do so.  Everyone should have one, regardless of age.

CCSLS administers several clinics throughout the county to assist clients in creating an AHCD.  Check out our calendar for upcoming dates.

We also have traveling clinics in which volunteer attorneys go to senior residential facilities to assist residents in creating AHCDs. Call our office at 925-609-7900 to set up a clinic at a senior residential facility.

Durable Power of Attorney

A Durable Power of Attorney is a document that allows you to appoint an agent to handle your financial affairs should you become unable to do so.  It can be an important part of the estate planning process. CCSLS provides assistance in creating a Uniform Durable Power of Attorney which is appropriate for use in simple estates.  For more complex estates, and for comprehensive estate planning, please consult a private estate planning attorney.

Simple Wills

For seniors who have limited resources and income*, the pro bono attorneys at the Free Wills Clinics can assist in drafting a simple will.  Our clinics do not assist with trusts or more complex estate planning.

*No resources other than the house and income of $2500 or less single, $3,500 or less couple

CCSLS administers clinics throughout the county at Senior Centers, Monument Crisis Center and at senior housing facilities by special arrangement (Advance Health Care Directives only). These clinics are staffed by pro bono attorneys who provide information and advice on general civil legal problems (Consult-an-Attorney), assist with simple wills (Wills Clinics) or assist with Advance Health Care Directives.  Please call the Senior Center/Crisis Center directly to schedule an appointment or for assistance.  For assistance with setting up an Advance Health Care clinic at a senior housing facility, call the main office in Concord.
